Amazing Alex: Welcome Back Wednesday

I am back! I haven't blogged in about 2 weeks on this blog. I've been super busy with back to school and all of that. Although, I have been updating my personal blog as often as I could. I cannot promise a post every Friday with school starting and back to school activities, but I will try my best. I am also starting another collaboration blog with some other bloggers. I will try my best to schedule some posts and all of that.

School started Wednesday for myself. I decided to show you what i wore on the first day back to school.. I think it's very important to make a good impression on your teachers. Look nice, do your makeup nicely, and just be happy and perky. I love having a wonderful bond with my teachers and the perfect outfit really motivates me.

Welcome Back Wednesday

As I mentioned earlier, Wednesday was the first day of school. The first day if the first time those people yo haven't seen in 3 months is going to see you. Make your impression better than the rest. I wore a dress with some sandals. I got most of the things from Florida when I went a few weeks ago.

My sister joined me, I hope you don't mind. My apologies, but I didn't take too many pictures. The sky was all gloomy. Above is the dress I wore. It's from Roxy. I'm not sure where the cardigan is from, my apologies. My watch, which you cannot see, is from Roxy as well. My rings are from Old Navy and I believe that's it.

My sister wore a shirt from American Eagle along with a neckless from American Eagle. I believe her shorts are from Aeropostale (which is where my brown sandals were from.)

I am so sorry this post wasn't more exciting. Hopefully I'll have some better OOTD.

Thanks for reading! Xoxo,

Alex

The Monster: Get Ready With Me

I went out with one of my close guy friends on Wednesday and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to do this post since I haven't posted in two weeks.

*All of the writing are in the captions of each photo :-) I thought I'd try something different.

Yes, I am in a robe. I literally just got out of the shower.

Hot Straight from L'Oreal
I apply this to my hair when it's still a bit damp.

Hair Dryer from Revlon and the straighteners are from Hair Sassoon
They are extremely old - I think I've had them since I was 10. 5 out of 5 on durability.

Because of the Hot Straight cream, my hair has already dried kind of straight. I just straighten out the kinks after I dry my hair.

The hair straighteners have 6 heat settings. Since they're old, I don't think they get as hot as newer straighteners.
This is actually, in my opinion, better because you don't damage your hair as much with the heat.

This is my hair after I've straightened it. I pinned up one side with some hairpins from Boots.

After doing my hair, I put on eye make-up. I'm not a big fan of foundation and lip glosses.

The eye liner is from Maybelline New York and the eyebrow definer is from Avon.
The eyebrow definer is so easy to use so it would get a 5 out of 5 from me.
The eye liner takes some getting used to but I've been using it for over two years now so I'm a pro at putting it on.

The webcam wasn't big enough to get my face in as well but this is what I wore on my day out.
Top and skirt from Next
I also wore a pair of tights from Superdrug. They came as a pair of five and I've only ever worn each
pair twice at most because they rip so easily.
The tights are a definite 1 out of 5 on durability.

I love this necklace. Unfortunately, I don't know where it's from since I got it from one of my friends.

Bag from River Island
I got this as a birthday present.
The watch I'm wearing is made by Storm.

It's understandable how so many people think I'm a goth. I just prefer to wear dark colours.

Also, when you are going out with a guy friend (alone), make sure you don't look like a couple. At all.

Sneaky picture from one of the dressing rooms in Bhs
I loved the dress but the sleeves made my arms look big...

The Monster: How To Avoid Make-up Disasters

Everyone's had one and has been embarrassed by it. Whether it's smudged eyeliner, lipstick on your teeth or cartoon eyebrows, we've all experienced a make-up disaster. But, where there's a will, there's a way. Make-up mishaps are avoidable (thankfully) - and, lucky for you, I have tips on how to avoid these things.

Before The Make-up
When you want to put on make-up before a day out, you have to think about a few things first. A lot of people forget that the event does have an impact on what you should wear on your face.

  1. Where are you going?
    1. If you're going to a formal event with dresses and suits, opt for dark shades that match your clothes. If you're wearing blue, wear a sapphire shade on your eyes and red lips; if you're wearing yellow, wear gold and brown eye-shadow - too much yellow will make you look like a walking light bulb.
    2. If you're going to a club or party, wear foundation and lipstick that will not smudge and, ideally, waterproof eyeliner and mascara. You will sweat and you know it. You don't want to walk out of the place looking like your face is melting. Heavier amounts of make-up are also what I see on most clubbers' faces but make sure you're not orange; you're a person, not an oompa loompa. Again, the colours depend on what you're wearing.
    3. If you're going to chill out at the, shopping centre, cinema, beach, woods or park, wear little to no make-up. Keep it light and wear subtle, natural tones like brown eye-shadow. Lip balm is also better than lipsticks and lip gloss. Your lips will stay hydrated and you won't leave a mark on your man if you're on a date. Boys like seeing natural beauty and when they say they'd rather you don't wear make-up, they lie. They just don't want every single product in existence on your face.
  2. How long are you out for?
    1. Planning on spending the whole day away? Wear long-lasting make-up - smudge proof, waterproof and crack proof.
    2. If you're only out for a few hours, wear make-up that you know will come off with ease. The sooner you get it off, the quicker you can sit back in your pyjamas and relax with a book or the TV.
  3. Make sure your face is clean and moisturized.

During Application
  1. Do not rush! Imagine your face is a canvas, you don't want to look like a five year old's drawing.
  2. When applying eyeliner, do it in small strokes unless you're really confident that you can draw a line across your eyelid well.
  3. After putting lipstick on, put your index finger in your mouth, screw your lips around it like it's a lollipop and pull your finger out. The lipstick on your finger would have been on your teeth by the end of the day.
  4. When you're applying foundation, don't forget about your neck.
  5. Your eyelashes should not touch your eyebrows.
  6. Use an eyebrow pencil or definer that is a shade or two lighter than your eyebrows. Amazingly, when you use the same shade, your eyebrows become darker than the colour they are. Weird, right?
  7. It goes foundation, eye shadow, eyeliner, eyebrows, mascara, lipstick, blush.

After Application
  1. Make sure your face is even - if one side is darker, for example, fix it.
  2. Make sure you're comfortable with what you've put on. If you feel like hiding your face, take it off. There's no point in getting dolled up if you're not going to show it.

I don't wear a lot of make-up myself so instead of wearing it out to parties, I mess around and do things like this:

Amazing Alex: Night Routine

Hi everyone! Today I'm going to share with you my night time routine. I would love to show you some products I use and things like that. I hope you like it!

I usually start my routine around 7:30 PM after dinner if I don't have any plans or anything. I'll start the warm/hot bath water and while that's running I'll be gathering some of my materials. A head towel, a towel for my body, and a poof! I may also need to get a razor. I prefer to use the disposable ones because they leave a smoother finish.

When I am done washing my hair, my body, shaving and all of that, I get out of the bathtub, dry off and then moisturize. It kind of depends on what I'm in the mood for, sometimes I'll use Paris Amour lotion by Bath & Body Works sometimes I'll just use Suave lotion. Whatever I'm in the mood for.

After that, I move on to my face. I first remove my makeup with Neutogena makeup remover wipes. Then I apply a balancing gel cleanser by Primavera. I then pat my face dry with a towel. I can't show you this because it has my name on it, but then I apply a cream for my acne which was prescribed by my doctor. After my face is complete, I simply brush my teeth and insert my rubber bands (for my teeth.)

Neutogena Makeup Remover Wipes

Primavera Gel Cleanser
(Sorry it's sideways!)

Of course, I comb out my hair and put my pajamas on. I prefer to put my hair into a messy bun. Then I sit on my bed, put some music on, put my headphones on, and I'll either write in my journal, work on a song, or surf social media.

That's about it. Sometimes I like to light my wall flower, put music on (with my headphones in) and pace back and forth in my room thinking about things and people. I don't know it's kind of dramatic, but oh, well. Haha.

I hope you enjoyed my night routine. It's not too entertaining, I know.

Alex

The Monster: My Textiles Projects

I did Textiles at school for one of my GCSEs and during that time, I made a terrible bag, an alright waistcoat and a pair of pyjama shorts.

Over the years, my sewing, both by hand and on a machine, has greatly improved. If you read my blog, you'll know that I've been working on a bag for the last few weeks and I finished it earlier this week. That was probably the only project I've done that's gone well. Why? I had no coursework or time limits; I was free to do what I wanted and when to sew.

The coursework and my lack of experience did leave me with some terrible products in the end but I'm not afraid to share them with you. I like that the experience has made me better and it does prove that you won't get everything right on the first try.

Never be afraid to try sewing something yourself out of fabric. If that's too threatening then buy an already made garment and alter it. Use bleach, dye, paint, lace, buttons, anything! It's nice to make something that's yours and something that's unique. If you're after a career in the fashion industry, this would be a good start.

Here are the finished projects that I could get my hands on. I do wear the pyjama top and shorts during the summer because they're white and they keep me cool. The top is also a bit too big which makes it extra comfortable. Unfortunately, the shorts are still in the laundry somewhere and I don't really want to dig through the dirty clothes to find it. I didn't make the top; I just stencil printed the design on it using stencils I cut out myself. I used the butterfly to cover a tea stain on the shirt. Clever, right?

This bag could have been improved by a long way. I use very flimsy fabric - silk and polyester. I had a lot of this fabric so I thought I could put it to good use. I have never worn this bag...

This waistcoat, believe it our not, got me a B. I feel like I shouldn't have gotten more than a C but it's the teacher's decision, not mine. I keep it in a carrier bag in my room which explains the creases. It does fit me quite well but, like with the bag, I don't wear it. We had to design the waistcoat to be inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe. Did I do well? I don't think so.

I also have a bag of fabric bits. They're not very big pieces and I was thinking of doing a patchwork piece with them. The colours that I have go well together; most of the pieces are some shade of purple or red.

Amazing Alex: Hair Tutorial

Side Brain Into A Messy Bun
I love this look, personally. It's easy, fast, and works great on second day hair (as well as first day hair.)

To the left is the finished look. A small braid to the side and then having a messy bun in the back. I'm sure some of you guys, if not most of you, know how to do this. Although, I wanted to share my twist with it.

The first thing we're going to do is of course brush out the hair. I like to use a large paddle brush from Remington to do this. It get's all all of the tangles out and makes my hair really smooth. You guys can use whatever you usually use to detangle your hair.

Second step is to deep part your hair. I personally like to make the part on the right side of my head. (So, there's more hair on the left side.)

Next you're going to take hair from the part that has more hair and start braiding it. It's a normal braid, not a French braid.

I like to secure it with a clear elastic when I get the bottom just so it stays in a braid because sometimes it comes undone.

Then, I'm going to smooth out the top of the hair so there's nothing sticking out or anything bumps. I like to do this with a rat tail comb, just because it's more fine. I will then gather my hair back into a low pony tail and secure it with an elastic.

From here, it just gets easier. I like to have a doughnut kind of bun at the bottom, so all I do is have to roll the hair around it making a circle shape. And there you are! You have this cute 5 minute hairstyle for school, going out shopping, anything!

Thanks for reading! Xoxo,

Alex
