The Monster: Get Ready With Me - Work

It's after Christmas! Sales and more sales are happening everywhere.

I currently have a temporary retail job to handle the sales period. Because more people are in the shops, you have to dress appropriately to handle the workloads but still look fashionable at the same time - especially if you're in a fashion store like myself.

Dry Shampoo. It's weird but ideal.
I never have enough time to wash my hair and I shower at night anyway so I use dry shampoo if I have work in the morning. You have to be really thorough with it, though, and be careful on what you touch after.

The shampoo sticks to your fingers and leaves white marks on anything it touches. This is what my brush looks like after I use it on my hair. Make sure you wash your hands before you do anything else.

I don't do much to my hair. I straighten the ends only since I pin it back anyway.

My hair is extremely layered so a straightener is important to me.

I pin my hair away from my face. When you're rushing around a store and talking to people, it's easier to see everything when your hair isn't in the way.
I also wear light make up only. This is so that it doesn't smudge during the day. You might be tired after a few hours but your face can't show it.
I love my job and I really hope I get to stay on after this season. I'm ready for you, January Sales!

Amazing Alex: 3 Outfits

Hi everyone! I know I haven't posted in the longest time. I'm sure most of you who read my personal blog know that I'm trying to overcome my addiction with Tumblr. I love looking at outfits I find on Tumblr.

I hope you enjoy these outfits as much as I do! I've been obsessed with Tumblr looks lately. (I'm attempting to be a Tumblr girl, so far, so good.)

I found these 3 outfits. These trends have really been falling into style: scarves, combat boots, and leggings/jeggings.

Want the look? Let's get the look!
Scarves: Charlotte Russe

Sweaters: Forever21

Leggings/Jeggings: Charlotte Russe

Combat Boots: Charlotte Russe

I was looking at Charlotte Russe's website and found some very similar pieces, if not exact. There are some other stores, I'm sure, but these are some of the ones that I came across.

Thanks for reading!

My 2D Bag

So, I went to the Clothes Show last Saturday. Out of all things, this has to be my favourite:

Bask in its awesomeness! I love it. I've confused so many people at school, at the bus stops and around the city in general. I use it for school because, believe it or not, it has all of the space I need.

I got it for £15 at the Clothes Show. I spent the rest of my money for clothes and make-up. This bag is usually not available in shops around here so I felt really lucky that I found the stall (it was near the entrance) at the exhibition. I seriously think everyone should have a bag like this and nothing else!

I also went to the Clothes Show last year and the year before that. One of my friends and I made two videos of the day last year and put them on YouTube so if you want to see those click here for Part 1 and here for Part 2. By the way, it's been a year since these videos were made and since then I did get my teeth whitened a little bit (first time I've told anyone) and I do apologise for the way I talk. They're the most random videos ever so don't expect to be completely entertained by them.

That's all for this Friday. Stay beautiful x

The Monster: Wrap Up

First of all, sorry for the bad quality pictures... My phone wasn't really ideal for this so I had to use my laptop which has a poorer camera on it.

Anyway, on with the post!

1. The fabric scarf! For the slightly warmer days of winter/spring, this scarf is ideal. The patterns on fabric scarves are really pretty.

2. The classic loop and end. Works with any scarf.

3. The scarf that's too long. I love my long scarves - I have three... They're really thick and super warm on your neck and chest.

4. The snood! I love my snood and I'm currently knitting another one that's purple and white.

 5. You can also widen the snood and wear it as a shawl during the spring. It adds a nice touch to any outfit and the front of your body will be so nice and warm after.

6. The one with the pockets. It's a little different, I know but it's pretty clever. It's quite long and will keep your hands warm as well as your neck. Just be careful you don't strangle yourself.

If you guys have any quirky scarves, I'd love to see them. I want one of those scarves with the hat attached onto them as well! Those look really cool.

The Monster: Outfit of the Day 22/11/13

I had an idea for this post. A really good idea. Then, I forgot to take pictures. Here's the replacement and sorry if it's not the best one I've done...

Purple scarf
Blue Top from South
Red Skirt from Next
Navy Blue parka from Tesco
Bag from Cath Kidston
Dunlop black and white hi-tops

It was a lot colder than it looks. Sorry this post isn't amazing but I did have an awesome idea...

The Monster: Autumn Style Spotting

It's the Autumn, guys!

Here are my style spots for this week:

T-shirt dress (the bottom looks like a skirt)
Miami jumper
Navy Blue parka
I was wearing tights but I took them off and then remembered that I needed to take a picture...
I also wore black and white hi-tops

White collared top
Patterned jumper
Black skinny jeans
Green converse hi-tops
And she was also wearing a baggy light blue hat

Now that the weather is warmer, everyone is layering more and more.

I really like the jumper that my friend is wearing in the picture above. It's also making want to know how to knit. It's something that I haven't tried without help. When I was younger I had those knitting machines for kids and all it made was scarves and terrible hats.

The Monster: How To Be A Monster

Hey, guys! I know, I know - "What are you doing? It's not FRIDAY!... Also, you're not supposed to be home until Thursday..."

I wrote this before I left!

It's Halloween soon! My favourite time of the year, of course. Since I am "The Monster", I think it's only fair that I do a special Halloween post for you. In my opinion, I'm pretty good with make up and I do my siblings' make up every Halloween anyway (as well as my own, obviously).

I know that this isn't fashion related but I though it would be fun!

Now, let's all turn into some creepy as hell zombies:

You will need:

  • A black eye-liner pencil. It must be a PENCIL.
  • Dark red lipstick

1. Make sure your face is clean and completely dry if you've just washed it.

2. Using the eyeliner, mark out your face's creases and your jawline and smudge.
Go back into them and make them darker if you feel it's necessary.
On your lips, there should be thick black marks along the sides and bottom lip.
Warning! You will look and feel like an idiot!

3. Use red lipstick to darken your lips, chin and underneath your eyes.
4. MESS UP THAT HAIR!

5. Practise your zombie face.

Bonus tip: light shining directly on your face makes you look extra creepy.
I am actually planning on going as a zombie version of Dora the Explorer to a Halloween party this year. I think it's a nice twist to everything considering that I look like her (according to most people I know) and I have the clothes and make up to do this. Yes, I even have Dora's yellow socks and bracelet. It's a really weird coincidence.

I'll post pictures of that either here or on my own blog. :-)

The Monster: That Vintage Look

I went to a 60s themed party last Saturday so I decided to do a tutorial on how to achieve a vintage look. I'm not a fan of the bright colours of the 60s but I really like the rock/gothic/biker side to that so that's the look I went for. I stood out in the party, believe it or not... Amongst all of the bright colours, there was me.

You will need:
  • At least 6 hair pins
  • Hairspray
  • Red lipstick
  • Eyebrow definer
  • Black eyeliner
  • A vintage dress

1. I teased my fringe so that it would flip backwards and held it with hairspray.

2. I pinned my hair up, with 2 pins, pushing the quiff slightly to the front  so that it had some height to it.

3. I then pinned the sides of my hair flat against my head and sprayed everything in place.
Use the flat side of your hairbrush to neaten the sides.

4. Put concealer and foundation on. You should know how to do this.

5. Using your eyeliner, extend the end of your lash line diagonally upwards.
Make sure the end of the points are sharp.

6. Thicken those eyebrows and add your preferred shade of red lipstick to your lips.
The lighting in our living room is slightly better for a vintage effect :-)

7. I actually didn't change until about 2 hours later and it was already quite dark outside.
This dress is from blackbutterflyclothing.com

This look would have worked better if I had longer hair.
But, I still liked how everything turned out.

My face is not this pale in real life!
If anyone is daring enough to try this look then please tell me! At the actual party, I didn't have that much fun... My friends decided not to go last minute and I was left with people I didn't know.

EXTRA INFORMATION

A friend of mine is doing Business Enterprise at his school and has asked me to help with promoting it. They have a Facebook page which you can check out with information about their products and updates of everything. I'll post the link at the bottom of this post.

Here are their designs which they're hopefully going to manufacture soon:

I personally like 3, 5 and 8 if it was in black. If you like any of them then please comment below this post and please, please, please share the page with friends!

Also, since this is based in the UK, I don't know what's going to happen with the people in the USA but when information about that comes along, I'll pass this on through my own blog.

That's all for this week!

The Monster: Warm Up!

It's autumn and the chill is slowly settling in. Now, I know that hooded jumpers are viewed as plain, un-stylish and made for lazy days. But, with the right combination, they will turn into one of the best autumn clothes ever! Remember my first post?

With the right clothes, a hoodie will stand out.

I have four hoodies and they're all from America - my dad brings me one back whenever he goes there. He escorts patients in the UK that live in other countries back home. His job is pretty cool when you think about it.

Believe it or not, the hoodie in the picture above is actually a brilliant red and not pink...

I also have a pink "ATLANTA" one, a black "CANADA" one and a blue "BOSTON" one. The other two are currently in the laundry pile so here's my pink one:

DARE TO WEAR
I love my poncho! I've actually never worn it to school but I definitely will as the weather gets colder. For a small triangular piece of fabric, it is extremely warm! I use a safety pin to keep it together in the middle. The fur hides it well.

If any of you guys have a poncho, you should embrace it. If you don't then get one!

This poncho is from River Island:

I love skull patterns... There's something about them that's so attractive...

Anyway, that's all for now. I hope you have a good weekend. Stay beautiful x

The Monster: Style Spotting

So, now that everyone is able to wear their own clothes in sixth form, I thought I would be the observant one of the year. I searched the year group for people that wore nice outfits. If I saw anything obvious, it was this - spots. Polka dots everywhere!

Here are the clothes that I loved the most this week:

I love this laid-back yet eye-capturing look
The denim jacket is so stylish and worked well with Britain's
warm autumn weather.
The bright skirt adds a girly touch to the neutral outfit and I
love how it works so well.

I loved this outfit on her.
The look is so adorable but at the same time, it looks grown-up.
This is perfect for school, parties, days out etc
Basically, it's a really diverse outfit.

More polka dots!
This top is perfect for a smart, casual look and stands out against the cardigan

These leggings are so gorgeous!
They're very rock-y and the silver pattern stands out so well.
The plain top balances well with the patterned leggings.

Do you ever style spot? What do you find?

Amazing Alex: Review- Maybelline BB Cream

Lately, I've been really enjoying these reviews, so I thought I would do this one since I recently purchased a new foundation. I purchased the BB Cream foundation by Maybelline.

I've gone through several different foundations and this one is not one of my favorites. I don't think it has very good coverage, (at least for my skin.) It leaves my skin looking very dewy and cakey and I preferably don't like that look. I prefer a matte finish.

It's light weight, which is very nice. I like them to be light weight so it feels like I'm not wearing any foundation.

Although, it's not my first choice for a foundation, I'm sure it will work differently on different skin types. If you're into a light weight tinted moisturizer and you have little blemishes, I feel like you should totally check it out!

If you've tried this, comment below what you think.

Alex xx :)

Amazing Alex: 2 Outfits I Want

Hi everyone! It's Alex once again with a post for Fashion Fridays! It's been awhile since I posted something on this blog, which I strongly apologize for. I've been very, very busy with school, soccer, homework, and my other blogs including my main blog and my other collaboration blog.

For this post, I thought it would be appropriate to include some outfits that I've been eyeing on Tumblr, Instagram, and the internet in general. I hope you like them.

I'll be sure to post some more outfits later on next week.

Thanks for reading! Xoxo,

Alex

The Monster: Rock Meets Nerd

Okay, before you attack me for saying I'm a nerd, I actually do pretty well in school! So I think I qualify to do this look.

Top: New Look
Skirt: h&m
Braces: This shop at Southend-on-sea but you can get them from Claire's
Tights: Next
I love to be experimental when it comes to my clothes. Since, I can wear my own clothes to school now, you're going to be seeing more of these on here.

This look was inspired by my love for rock music and the moment I found my trouser braces. I forgot I had them. Even the simplest of things can give you the best ideas.

Watch: Select
Necklace: New Look
Bracelets: River Island
My friends definitely had some fun with the braces; they took every chance they could get to stretch and ping them onto my torso. It hurt.

Also, the cold has made a very big entrance into Britain so expect to see some more posts that are autumn-based.
